Hyderabad,Feb 14 (TNT):In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Cyberabad Cyber Crimes Police organised a special “Defreeze Accounts Mela” here on Saturday. On the occasion, no-Objection Certificates (NOCs) were handed over to account holders whose bank accounts had been frozen during cyber fraud investigations. Explaining the initiative, Cyber Crimes DCP T. Sai Manohar said that during cyber fraud probes, accounts suspected to be linked to fraudulent transactions are promptly frozen once victims report incidents through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). While such action is necessary to prevent diversion of funds, verification revealed that some frozen accounts belonged to individuals with no involvement in criminal activity, he said. He said the police therefore conducted a focused verification exercise, examining nearly 110 accounts frozen through the NCRP system. After detailed scrutiny of account holders’ identities, transaction histories and supporting documents, those found unrelated to offences were cleared and defrozen following due legal procedure, he said. The initiative, he said, ensured timely relief to innocent citizens while allowing investigators to concentrate on organised cyber offenders. The DCP also advised the public that in case of cyber fraud they should immediately dial 1930 or lodge a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in, and cautioned against sharing OTPs, passwords or banking details with unknown persons. ACP A. Ravinder Reddy and Inspectors Raghavender, Shivaprasad, Ramireddy, Durga Ramalinga Prasad, , Vijay Kumar, Madhu and other personnel participated in the programme. TTNT TS
