Centre to Host ‘GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit’ on Aug 5 to Promote GI Handloom, Handicraft Products
New Delhi, Aug 2 (TNT) : The Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, in association with the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), will organise the ‘GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit’Â at Dr Ambedkar International Centre here on August 5 to promote India’s Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged handloom and handicraft products in domestic and global markets.
The summit will be inaugurated by Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita.
Secretary (Textiles) Neelam Shami Rao will attend as the Guest of Honour in the presence of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Amrit Raj and Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks Unnat P. Pandit, among other dignitaries.
According to an official statement issued on Sunday, the summit aims to strengthen the GI ecosystem by facilitating collaboration among stakeholders and enhancing the market presence of India’s GI-tagged handloom and handicraft products.
The event will bring together overseas buyers from around 10 countries, exporters, multinational companies, registered proprietors of GI products, Central and State government officials, as well as representatives from leading textile brands, retail chains, e-commerce platforms, academia and industry.
More than 100 GI-registered handloom and handicraft products from across the country will be showcased during the summit.
Visitors will also witness thematic exhibitions highlighting India’s diverse weaving traditions and live demonstrations of handloom weaving and handicraft techniques.
During the inaugural session, GI certificates will be presented to registered proprietors and newly authorised users. The summit will also witness the launch of the Digital Handloom Atlas, titled “One Platform. Endless Markets”, a digital platform aimed at showcasing Indian handloom products, including GI products, and connecting artisans with global markets.
The Diamond Jubilee logo of the Handloom Export Promotion Council will also be unveiled on the occasion.
Experts from IIT Madras will make a special presentation on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to strengthen the GI ecosystem.
Technical sessions will deliberate on GI registration and intellectual property rights, promotion of GI products in the domestic market and strategies to expand the global reach of Indian GI handloom products.
The Ministry said the summit is expected to serve as a key platform for collaboration among policymakers, industry, exporters, intellectual property professionals, academia and international buyers to boost the visibility and commercial potential of India’s GI-tagged products.
