India’s Coal Production Rises 7.5 pc in July; Dispatches Jump 17.3 pc
New Delhi, Aug 2 (TNT): India’s coal production increased by 7.51 per cent year-on-year to 69.75 million tonnes (MT) (provisional) in July 2026 from 64.88 MT in the corresponding month last year, the Ministry of Coal said on Sunday.
Coal dispatch during the month registered a stronger growth of 17.34 per cent, reaching 86.33 MT (provisional) compared with 73.57 MT in July 2025, reflecting sustained efforts to ensure adequate coal supply and operational stability across the sector.
The Ministry said cumulative coal production during the first four months of the current financial year (FY 2026-27) stood at 302.24 MT (provisional), while cumulative coal dispatch reached 354.70 MT (provisional), registering a growth of 5.87 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 50.35 MT (provisional) in July, recording an 8.42 per cent increase over the same month last year. The company dispatched 63.67 MT (provisional) of coal during the month, up 17.43 per cent year-on-year.
The cumulative coal dispatch by CIL during the current financial year up to July also recorded a 6.81 per cent increase over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The Ministry of Coal said it remains committed to ensuring sustainable growth in the sector, enhancing coal availability and reducing dependence on imports, adding that the continued improvement in production and dispatch would support the country’s growing energy requirements.
