Kakinada, Feb 14 (TNT): District Collector Shan Mohan has distributed cycles to 60 girl students of seven government schools in Kakinada rural mandal at a function organised by the Coromandel International Limited here on Saturday. He also awarded scholarships to 120 meritorious students of those schools.
The scholarships included Rs.5,000 cheques for those who secured the first place and Rs.3,500 for the second place.
The Coromandel International Limited has organized the function as a part of ` Koro Vidya’ programme.
Addressing as the chief guest, the Collector has lauded the Coromandel for its community service programmes describing it as a distinguished institution but not a mere fertilizer manufacturing company.
He hoped the Coromandel serves as a role model for other corporate entities to emulate.
Shan Mohan further advised the students to make best use of the opportunities and study diligently and reach greater heights in their careers.
K Jagannatham Coromandel Unit Head said that the company was conducting the ` Koro vidya’ programme for the past ten years with a view to promote girl child education in the region.
Later, the Collector visited the Coromandel hospital and went round various wings and appreciated the Coromandel for providing reliable medical services to the public collecting a nominal fee of Rs.20 as OP fee .
