Hyderabad, July 30 (TNT): Olectra Greentech Limited, a part of the MEIL Group, has achieved a landmark milestone in India’s electric mobility sector by becoming the first company in the country to deploy 4,000 electric buses on Indian roads.

The Hyderabad-based electric bus manufacturer reached the milestone with the symbolic handover of its 4,000th electric bus to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the flagging off of 297 Olectra electric buses inducted into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet.

Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, senior State government officials, HRTC representatives and Olectra officials attended the event.

In a release, Olectra said its electric buses are currently operating across multiple States and cities, supporting cleaner and more efficient public transportation while helping reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

The company said its 4,000-strong electric bus fleet has collectively covered over 730 million green kilometres, preventing more than 6.5 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The achievement, it said, reinforces its contribution towards India’s sustainable mobility objectives.

Olectra Greentech Managing Director Mahesh Babu said the milestone reflects the increasing confidence of public transport undertakings in electric mobility.

“Becoming the first company in India to deploy 4,000 electric buses is a defining moment for Olectra and the country’s electric mobility sector. This achievement is a result of the trust placed by our customers, partners, employees and stakeholders in our vision,” he said.

He added that Olectra will continue to focus on innovation, advanced technologies and large-scale deployment to support India’s transition towards sustainable public transportation.

With a strong order pipeline, proven execution capabilities and partnerships with State transport undertakings, Olectra said it is positioned to play a key role in the next phase of India’s electric mobility growth.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable mobility solutions across the country.
