Telangana CM cacks whip on Kodangal works, vows monthly reviews and overnight stay
Hyderabad, July 21 (TNT) : Signalling that the Congress government is keen to fast-track development in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s home constituency of Kodangal, the Chief Minister on Tuesday evening pulled up officials over delays in key projects, warned of disciplinary action against negligent officers and announced that he would personally monitor progress every month.
During an inspection of the Hakimpet Education Hub in Dudyal mandal of Vikarabad district, Revanth Reddy expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of construction and directed officials to accelerate all ongoing works, stressing that the prestige projects should be completed within the stipulated timelines.
Chairing a review meeting on development works in the constituency, the Chief Minister said the government was committed to transforming Kodangal into a model constituency through large-scale investments in education, irrigation, road connectivity and civic infrastructure.
Reviewing the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to complete land acquisition without delay, assuring that the government would provide adequate funds and deploy additional surveyors wherever required.
He directed officials to immediately call tenders after completion of the acquisition process.
In a strong message to the bureaucracy, the Chief Minister said negligence in implementing government programmes would not be tolerated and warned that suspension of erring officials would not be ruled out if delays continued.
Laying emphasis on rural connectivity, he directed officials to ensure that every tribal thanda in Kodangal is connected by road and that every village has blacktop road connectivity to its respective mandal headquarters.
He also ordered the construction of Gram Panchayat buildings in newly created village panchayats and asked that an Executive Engineer-level officer be exclusively entrusted with monitoring development works.
Anticipating the possible impact of El Niño, Revanth Reddy directed officials to prepare contingency plans to prevent drinking water shortages anywhere in the constituency.
He also reviewed municipal infrastructure projects, bus station construction and the development of tanks and other water bodies, directing officials to expedite all pending works.
At the Hakimpet Education Hub, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the Young India Integrated Residential School, Engineering College, Government Medical College, Veterinary College, Nursing College, Physiotherapy and Paramedical College, hostels and other institutions being established as part of the ambitious education cluster.
Expressing displeasure over the delay in allotting residential plots to farmers who had parted with land for the Education Hub, he directed officials to distribute pattas to all eligible beneficiaries by next week.
Revanth Reddy announced that he would personally review the progress of the projects every month and spend one day at the Education Hub to monitor implementation.
He said he would return on August 30, conduct another review meeting at the site and stay there overnight to assess the pace of works.
The Chief Minister’s visit comes as the state government seeks to showcase rapid infrastructure development and educational expansion in Kodangal, the constituency represented by Revanth Reddy, ahead of the next phase of implementation of its flagship development initiatives.
MLAs Rammohan Reddy and Manohar Reddy, senior officials from various departments and district-level officers were present during the inspection and review meeting.
