Kakinada Municipal Commissioner orders removal of drain encroachments
Kakinada, July 16 (TNT): Kakinada Municipal Commissioner N.V.V. Satyanarayana on Thursday directed officials to remove encroachments on drains, footpaths and roadside vendor stalls as part of the municipal corporation’s city beautification initiative.
During an inspection of sanitation works from the Government General Hospital to Wharf Road, the Commissioner also instructed officials to replace leaking water pipelines and improve civic infrastructure in the area.
At the Old Bus Stand area, Satyanarayana responded to complaints from local residents by directing officials to improve drainage, sanitation, water supply and road conditions.
He ordered the immediate removal of footpaths constructed over a major drain, saying they had obstructed the free flow of wastewater and caused frequent overflow.
He also directed officials to clear vehicles parked near the Central Medical Store.
The Commissioner said water supply to Jagannadhapuram and adjoining areas would remain suspended for a day to facilitate urgent pipeline repairs. Drinking water would be supplied through tankers during the disruption, he said.
He added that proposals for widening the Jagannadhapuram main road were ready and the work would begin shortly with the support of the local MLA and public representatives.
Satyanarayana instructed officials to desilt drains and clean manholes across the area.
He said encroachments on footpaths along Wharf Road were being removed and ordered the clearance of abandoned machinery, unauthorised structures and overgrown vegetation that were causing inconvenience to the public.
He also warned political parties and event organisers to remove unauthorised flex banners, failing which the municipal corporation would remove them.
Appealing for public cooperation, the Commissioner urged residents to pay property and water taxes on time, saying adequate revenue was essential for the city’s development.
Health Officer Dr D. Prudhwicharan, Sanitation Supervisor Rambabu, Water Works Divisional Engineer Lakshminarayana and Horticulture Assistant Director Srinivasa Rao accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
