Traffic police launch special drive against modified silencers in Kakinada

Kakinada, July 16 (TNT): The Kakinada city traffic police on Thursday launched a special enforcement drive against the use of modified silencers on motorcycles and booked several motorists for violating traffic rules.

The drive was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav. Traffic Police Station-I Inspector Ramesh and his team also booked cases against motorists found riding triple on two-wheelers.

Police imposed fines on riders using modified silencers, stating that such alterations cause excessive noise pollution and inconvenience to the public, particularly senior citizens.

Addressing motorists through a public announcement system, Inspector Ramesh said prolonged exposure to excessive noise could adversely affect hearing and warned that modified silencers generating noise beyond permissible limits posed a public health concern.

He also cautioned against triple riding, bike stunts and driving by minors, saying these were among the major causes of road accidents.

The inspector urged motorists to extend immediate assistance to accident victims, informing them that under the Good Samaritan Scheme, individuals who help shift road accident victims to hospitals are eligible for a cash incentive of Rs 25,000.

He further said the government provides cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for eligible road accident victims during the first seven days following an accident.

The traffic police also appealed to motorists to wear helmets, avoid overspeeding and refrain from rash driving to ensure their safety as well as that of other road users.
