Hyderabad Marathon to be held on Aug 29-30 with Rs 45 lakh prize purse

Hyderabad, July 15 (TNT): The 15th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon will be held on August 29 and 30, with over 32,000 participants expected to take part in what organisers described as India’s second-largest marathon.

Organised by the Hyderabad Runners Society in partnership with NMDC Ltd., IDFC FIRST Bank and the Telangana government, the event will feature Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K races.

The organisers said the marathon, recognised as a World Athletics Label Race, will bring together elite international athletes, leading Indian distance runners and amateur runners.

The event will offer a total prize purse of ₹45 lakh.

An Inclusive Run, organised in association with the Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF), has been introduced this year, with over 300 persons with disabilities registering to participate.

The marathon has also received SheRACES accreditation for promoting a safer and more inclusive race environment for women.

The official finisher’s medal and event T-shirt were unveiled by NMDC Director (Personnel) Krishna Kumar Thakur, IDFC FIRST Bank Chief Marketing Officer Shreepad Shende and Olympic Boxer Nikhant Zareen at a function held here on Wednesday.

Addressing the event, boxer Nikhat Zareen said the marathon promotes inclusivity by encouraging participation from people of all ages and backgrounds while inspiring self-belief and healthier lifestyles.

Krishna Kumar  said the company was proud to support the marathon for the fifth consecutive year, adding that the event’s focus on health, inclusivity and sustainability aligned with NMDC’s values.

Shreepad Shende said the partnership extended beyond sponsorship and celebrated stories of perseverance and resilience while promoting fitness and financial discipline.

Race Director Rajesh Vetcha said the marathon has grown into one of India’s leading distance-running events with the support of runners, volunteers, partners and the city, adding that the organisers remain committed to delivering a world-class race experience.

The organisers said the marathon will continue to serve as one of India’s largest charity fundraising platforms, with 40 NGOs participating this year.

More than ₹2.03 crore has already been raised towards a target of ₹4 crore, with the fundraising campaign continuing till September 15.

The marathon will be held over two days, with the 5K Run and Inclusive Run scheduled for August 29 and the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K races on August 30.

The flagship races will start from People’s Plaza and conclude at Gachibowli Stadium after passing through key landmarks across the city.
