National seminar on BC issues to be held in Delhi on July 27-28: R Krishnaiah
Hyderabad, July 12, (TNT): National BC Welfare Association president and Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah on Sunday announced that a two-day national seminar on issues concerning Backward Classes (BCs) would be held in New Delhi on July 27 and 28.
The seminar will seek 50 per cent reservation for BCs in legislative bodies and the establishment of a separate Ministry for Backward Classes at the Centre, Krishnaiah said in a statement.
He said Union Ministers, Members of Parliament from various political parties, and intellectuals, professors and social activists from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra would participate in the seminar.
Krishnaiah welcomed the Centre’s decision to conduct a nationwide caste census, describing it as a significant step towards ensuring proportional representation for Backward Classes in education, employment, politics and other sectors.
He expressed hope that the Union government would also consider long-pending demands, including enhanced reservation for BCs and the creation of a dedicated ministry for their welfare.
