Hyderabad Police Seize Ganja in ‘Operation Thunderbolt’, Detain Over 65 Suspects
Hyderabad, July 9 (TNT): Hyderabad City Police on Thursday seized 150 sachets of ganja, one kilogram of dry ganja, 32 bottles of cough syrup and liquor bottles during a massive cordon and search operation, codenamed ‘Operation Thunderbolt’, conducted in Manganri Basti under the limits of Habeeb Nagar Police Station as part of a crackdown on drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
The operation, launched at around 3.30 am, involved more than 1,100 police personnel drawn from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Task Force, H-FAST, Central Crime Station (CCS), CAR Armed Reserve and local police.
The drive was carried out under the guidance of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar and supervised by Additional Commissioners of Police S.M. Srinivas (Crimes & SIT) and Tafsir Iqbal (Law and Order).
During the operation, police detained 15 persons allegedly involved in drug-related offences, 50 suspected property offenders, besides taking into custody several property offenders, chain snatchers and persons against whom non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were pending, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said in a release.
Senior police officials said the Hyderabad City Police would continue to pursue a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and organised crime, warning that stringent legal action would be taken against those involved in narcotics trade and other criminal activities.
The operation was undertaken as part of the Hyderabad City Police’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and strengthen law and order in the city.
