No Need for Apprehensions About Polio Vaccine, Says Kakinada Collector

Kakinada, June 28 (TNT): District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad on Sunday appealed to parents not to have any apprehensions about the Pulse Polio vaccine, asserting that it is completely safe and effective.

Launching the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme along with Kakinada City MLA Kondababu and Andhra Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Thota Sudhir at the Urban Primary Health Centre in Ramaraopeta, the Collector said the district aims to cover 1,44,762 children below five years of age during the three-day campaign.

He advised parents to immediately contact the nearest medical officer if they notice any health concerns in their children after vaccination, adding that the district administration has kept medical teams on standby to respond to any emergency.

The Collector said 990 Pulse Polio booths and 61 mobile vaccination teams have been deployed across the district to ensure that every eligible child, including those in remote areas, receives the vaccine.

He said the immunisation drive will be conducted over three days.

On the first day, polio drops will be administered at designated booths, while on the following two days, ASHA and Anganwadi workers will undertake door-to-door visits to vaccinate children who could not attend the booths.

To cover children travelling with their parents, the administration has also set up 56 transit vaccination points at bus stands, railway stations and other crowded locations.

“The government has undertaken the programme with the slogan ‘Two Drops for Life of Kids’,” the Collector said, urging parents to ensure that every child below five years receives the life-saving vaccine.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr J. Narasimha Naik, State Pulse Polio Observer Dr R. Naresh, District Immunisation Officer Dr Subbaraju and Municipal Health Officer Dr D. Prudhwicharan, among others, were present.
