DRI Seizes 2 kg Cocaine in Surat, Arrests One; 26 kg Recovered Nationwide Since Last Month
New Delhi/Surat, June 26 (TNT): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 2 kg of cocaine in Surat and arrested one person under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking.
The latest seizure is part of a series of coordinated operations conducted by the DRI at airports, railway stations, courier terminals and highways in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Kochi and Ahmedabad, the agency siad in a release on Friday.
The agency said it has seized nearly 26 kg of cocaine across the country since last month and arrested 22 persons, including 14 foreign nationals, in connection with the cases.
According to the DRI, drug traffickers employed various methods to smuggle the contraband, including ingestion of drug-filled capsules, concealment in household and edible items, soaking narcotics in fabrics, and hiding them inside baggage.
The agency said its coordinated operations have been aimed at dismantling organised narcotics syndicates involved in the trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The DRI reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement action against drug trafficking as part of the Government of India’s vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India).
The agency also noted that June 26 is observed globally as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, established by the United Nations in 1987 to promote international cooperation in combating drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.
