Collector flags off rally against drugs abuse Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in Kakinada

Kakinada, June 25 (TNT):  District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad on Thursday flagged off an anti-drug awareness rally as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ at the District Police Office here.

The rally was jointly organised by the District EAGLE Wing of the police department and the Department of Welfare of Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities.

The rally commenced from the Superintendent of Police’s office and proceeded to Bhanugudi Junction, with participation from officials of the Medical and Health, Prohibition and Excise, and Revenue Departments, besides a large number of students.

The participants later formed a human chain at Bhanugudi Junction and raised slogans against drug abuse, highlighting its harmful effects on health and society.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector and Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav appealed to people, particularly youth, to stay away from drugs, ganja and other narcotic substances.

Harendhira Prasad said special awareness programmes were being conducted in schools, colleges and public places by the police and EAGLE teams to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse and bring about positive social change.

Observing that the future of the nation rests with its youth, he urged young people not to fall prey to narcotic substances.

He said individuals found addicted to drugs would be shifted to rehabilitation centres for treatment and counselling.

SP Bindu Madhav urged citizens to share information regarding ganja smugglers through the toll-free helpline number 1972, assuring prompt and stringent action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

During the programme, EAGLE Wing Inspector G. Venkateswara Rao administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to all participants.

Around 1,300 students participated in the rally.

Among those present were Assistant Director of the Department of Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities A.Y. Srinivas, Child Rights Protection Officer Venkat Rao, Additional SP (Administration) Dr. Mahanti Kishore Kumar, AR Additional SP Srinivasa Rao, Kakinada SDPO Patil Devaraj Manish, Peddapuram DSP A.B.G. Tilak, DSP (Armed Reserve) Srihari Rao, Prohibition and Excise Superintendent M. Krishnakumary and other officials.
