Telangana Police Receives National Award for Passport Verification Services

Hyderabad, June 19(TNT): Telangana Police has been conferred the prestigious Institutional Performance Award for State Police by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in recognition of its outstanding performance in passport verification and citizen-centric service delivery.

The award was presented by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand during the Passport Seva Divas celebrations and Passport Officers’ Conference held at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan in New Delhi from June 17 to 19.

The award recognises Telangana Police for providing fast, transparent and efficient passport verification services, setting a benchmark for other states.

Expressing happiness over the recognition, DGP Anand said police verification is a critical component of the passport issuance process and the award reflects the commitment and professionalism of Telangana Police personnel in delivering prompt services to citizens.

During the financial year 2025-26, Telangana Police processed 8,67,741 passport applications and completed verification of 8,67,452 applications, recording a clearance rate of nearly 99 per cent with an average turnaround time of five to seven days.

In 2024-25, the department completed verification of 8,06,684 passport applications with an average processing time of less than seven days.

Officials said Telangana Police has received seven national-level recognitions for excellence in passport verification services since 2015.

The department’s technology-driven passport verification system, ‘VeriFast’, has played a key role in improving efficiency.

Developed by Telangana Police, the AI-enabled platform cross-verifies applicant details with databases such as the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), previous passport records and other data sources to detect discrepancies and criminal antecedents.

Compatible with Android and iOS platforms, the system assists police personnel during field verification and provides timely updates to applicants.

The DGP said the recognition would motivate the department to continue improving public services through technology-driven reforms and citizen-centric initiatives.
