CLAP vehicle drivers  stage dharna for job safety in Kakinada

Kakinada , June 19 (TNT): CLAP vehicles(Clean Andhra Pradesh vehicles) drivers owing allegiance to CITU affiliated union  staged dharna in front of the Municipal health officers office at Bala Bhavan in Gandhinagar here on Friday demanding job safety and resuming of CLAP vehicles which were stopped for the past ten days.

They said that due to stoppage of CLAP vehicles the collection of  wet and dry garbage from households remain paralysed.

The CITU which supported the drivers demand for job safety, alleged that the contract agency Swayambhoo transport has stopped the CLAP vehicles on Wednesday last making the drivers jobless.

CITU city co-convenor Palivela Virababu alleged that the contract agency stopped the vehicles owing to non –payment of bills and PF, ESI deducted from the driver’s wages were not deposited to the concerned departments since January .

He demanded wage increase to the drivers commensurating with the price rise and for the drivers posts of the vehicles arranged by the Municipal corporation CLAP drivers should be given priority.

Later they called on the Municipal health Officer Dr D Prudhwicharan and presented a representation on their demand.

Replying to their  representation, the health officer said that the Municipal corporation has sent Rs.50 lakhs towards bill payment to CDMA.

He said that the CLAP vehicles would be resumed and the vehicles contract would continue till December.

He also assured the drivers priority would be given to the drivers in alternative employment.

CITU district committee member Medisetti Venkataramana, CLAP drivers union leaders S Santhosh Kumar, Victor, M Kondababu, T Durgaprasad, Arun, Gangadhar, Suribabu, Ismail, Ramana, Appanna and Lakshman were among those led the stir.
