Kakinada: CPI demands waiver of crop loans up to Rs.2 lakhs

Kakinada, June 19 (TNT): CPI state secretariat member Thatipaka Madhu on Friday demanded the government to waive crop loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs on the lines of neighbouring Telangana government to save the farmers from committing suicides.

Talking to media persons here, he said that the farmers were facing severe crisis during past two years due to lack of minimum support price for the crops produced  and several farmers committed suicides due to heavy debts.`

The banks are not sanctioning loans to the tenant farmers for any agricultural or horticultural crops. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to implement Dr M S Swaminathan committee recommendations during elections but conveniently forgot after coming to power’ he added.

The CPI leader further demanded roll back of prices of fertilizers, pesticides seeds, petrol, diesel, agricultural implements which were enhanced recently under the war affect.

He asked the government to construct the canals for the irrigation projects , irrigation tanks should be cleared of all the  encroachments  and tank bunds to be strengthened .

He announced party’s support to the Chalo Vijayawada stir planned by the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham and Tenant farmers union on June 30.

Madhu has criticized the government’s decision to open Bars in the name of Beach shacks to boost up revenue under the pretext of tourism promotion.

CPI district secretary K Bodakonda, district joint secretary Thokala Prasad, district executive members P Satyanarayana , Saka Ramakrishna, A. Bhavani and Bobbili Srinivas were among those attended.
