Telangana BJP Chief targets Congress, BRS Ahead of Civic Polls; Calls for BJP Victory in Civil polls
Hyderabad, June 14 (TNT): Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Sunday launched a broadside against the ruling Congress and opposition BRS, alleging a “tacit understanding” between the two parties, and called upon BJP workers to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections.
Addressing a party workers’ meeting at Amberpet in the city, Rao said BJP cadres should reach every household and expose what he termed as the failures of the Congress government over the past two years.
Claiming that a strong anti-incumbency sentiment was emerging across Telangana, he alleged that the Congress had failed to fulfil key promises made before the Assembly elections, leading to growing dissatisfaction among farmers, youth, women, government employees and other sections of society.
The BJP leader accused the state government of misleading the public on paddy procurement and farmers’ welfare, alleging that despite claiming record procurement, farmers were forced to sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
He said BJP leaders had consistently raised farmers’ issues by visiting procurement centres across the state and putting pressure on the government to improve procurement operations.
Turning his attack towards Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Rao challenged him to an open debate on the contribution of the Narendra Modi-led Union Government to Telangana.
He claimed that the Centre had extended projects and assistance worth over Rs 13 lakh crore to the state, including AIIMS, industrial corridors, textile parks, national highways and railway infrastructure projects.
In a politically significant attack, Rao alleged that Congress and BRS were secretly protecting each other despite publicly criticising one another.
Referring to the Kaleshwaram project controversy and the Vote-for-Note case, he claimed that there was a “Fevicol bond” between the Congress and BRS and alleged that both parties were shielding each other’s leaders from accountability.
“Though they appear to be fighting politically, they are protecting each other behind the scenes,” he alleged.
Rao also criticised the state government’s handling of recent heavy rains in Hyderabad, accusing the administration of failing to prepare for the monsoon despite repeated warnings.
Questioning the government’s response to urban flooding and rain-related deaths, he said the Congress administration should first focus on improving civic infrastructure in Hyderabad before promoting ambitious future development projects.
On the Musi River redevelopment initiative, the BJP leader clarified that his party supported river rejuvenation but opposed the displacement of poor and middle-class families in the name of development.
He further alleged that Congress, BRS and AIMIM were pursuing similar political agendas and accused them of working against the interests of the people.
With civic elections approaching, Rao urged Hyderabad voters to support the BJP, asserting that the city would witness “real development” if the party came to power in municipal corporations.
