HYDERABAD, June 14 (TNT): The Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), in collaboration with Hyderabad City Police, on Sunday organised the certification ceremony for the first batch of the Margadarshak Programme and launched its second cohort to strengthen community participation in public safety initiatives.
The Margadarshak Programme is a community-based initiative aimed at creating a network of trained volunteers and safety ambassadors to support citizen engagement in public safety, emergency response, women’s safety, cyber awareness and community outreach.
Officials said over 80 participants successfully completed the training modules and received certification under the programme’s inaugural cohort.
The certified volunteers are expected to serve as community ambassadors, helping promote safety awareness and support public safety initiatives across the city.
Following the success of the first batch, the second cohort was formally launched with 280 participants already enrolled, reflecting growing public interest in community policing initiatives.
The programme is being supported by the Pokarna Group.
In his keynote address on the occasion, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police and HCSC Chairman V. C. Sajjanar said public safety was a shared responsibility and stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

Sajjanar also announced the launch of a Police Mentors Programme under which a designated constable in every police station would mentor and guide Margadarshak volunteers.
He said the initiative, along with the recently launched Spandana – All Women First Responder System, would help strengthen safety networks across educational institutions, residential communities and workplaces.
HCSC Secretary General C. Shekar Reddy said programmes such as Margadarshak play an important role in fostering cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies and help promote proactive approaches to urban safety.
DCP, Women Safety Wing, Dr. Lavanya NJP highlighted the importance of community engagement programmes and briefed volunteers on their responsibilities under the initiative.
HCSC Women’s Forum Joint Secretary Khyati Naravane thanked partner organisations, trainers and participants for contributing to the success of the programme and reiterated the council’s commitment to expanding the initiative in the coming months.
