Telangana Guv Seeks PSU Support for Salar Jung Museum Modernisation Ahead of Platinum Jubilee

Hyderabad, June 5 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has appealed to Central and State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to support the modernisation and expansion of the historic Salar Jung Museum as it prepares to celebrate its Platinum Jubilee year.

Chairing a meeting with representatives of various PSUs at Lok Bhavan on Thursday, the Governor, who also serves as Chairman of the Salar Jung Museum, reviewed preparations for the week-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations scheduled from June 14 to 21.

The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore and Joint Secretary Shashikirana Chary, among other officials.

Addressing PSU representatives, Shukla said the celebrations, being organised to mark the birth anniversary of Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, would feature special exhibitions, cultural programmes, educational initiatives, publications, outreach activities and public engagement events.

The Governor said the Museum was preparing a comprehensive five-year development plan aimed at transforming it into a world-class institution.

Expressing confidence that the Central Government would extend support for the initiative, he urged PSUs to contribute through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes towards the museum’s modernisation and expansion efforts.

Speaking on the occasion, Dana Kishore said the State Government was undertaking extensive development and beautification works along the Musi riverfront.

He noted that plans were also being prepared to develop the precincts encompassing the Telangana High Court, Salar Jung Museum and Osmania General Hospital as a heritage corridor and sought support from participating organisations for the museum’s development initiatives.

Responding positively to the Governor’s appeal, PSU representatives assured that they would explore opportunities to partner with the museum in its modernisation and expansion programmes.

During the meeting, museum officials presented a roadmap for future development and informed participants that projects worth between ₹25 crore and ₹35 crore were proposed over the next five years to upgrade galleries, storage facilities and conservation infrastructure.

The proposed works include gallery enhancement, expansion of educational programmes, modernisation of conservation laboratories, improvement of visitor services and augmentation of public amenities.

Museum authorities also proposed establishing a dedicated Telangana Heritage Wing at an estimated cost of ₹85 crore to showcase the state’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Representatives from major PSUs, including Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), NMDC, HUDCO, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation of India, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), GAIL India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) attended the meeting.
