‘Palle Nidra’ Initiative Brings Friendly Policing to Villagers’ Doorsteps in Kakinada

Kakinada, May 31 (TNT): In an effort to strengthen community policing and bring police services closer to rural residents, Prathipadu Sub-Inspector Lakshmikantham participated in the ‘Palle Nidra’ programme in Prathipadu village on Saturday night and interacted with villagers on various issues, particularly those related to law and order.

The programme was conducted as per the directions of Kakinada Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav and DSP A.B.G. Tilak.

During the interaction, the SI created awareness about cyber crimes, women’s safety, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other recently introduced laws.

She urged villagers to immediately alert the police if they come across incidents of child marriage.

Describing child marriage as a social evil, Lakshmikantham said girls married before attaining physical maturity are likely to face serious health complications, which could also adversely affect their children.

She also advised villagers to remain vigilant about the movement of strangers in their localities, particularly ganja smugglers and other anti-social elements.

The SI asked residents to share information on narcotics-related activities with the police and the dedicated EAGLE Cell, which is working to curb ganja smuggling, by sending messages to helpline number 1972.

Addressing youth, she cautioned them against online betting and warned people not to fall victim to unauthorised loan applications.

She also advised residents not to respond to suspicious calls or video calls from unknown persons, noting that cyber criminals often exploit such interactions through fraudulent links and scams.

Lakshmikantham further urged smartphone users to exercise caution while using digital platforms and to immediately contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 in case of online fraud or cyber harassment.

Villagers welcomed the initiative and shared their concerns with the police officer during the overnight outreach programme.
