BJP Alleges Telangana Govt Failed on Paddy Procurement, Says It Has No Moral Right to Blame Centre

Hyderabad, May 30 (TNT): The BJP on Saturday accused the Congress government in Telangana of failing to meet paddy procurement targets and asserted that it had no moral right to blame the Narendra Modi-led Central Government for the ongoing procurement issues.

Addressing a press conference here , Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had failed to fulfil its responsibilities in paddy procurement despite the Centre agreeing to procure rice equivalent to nearly 5.3 million metric tonnes of paddy from Telangana.

Citing data from the Central Food Grain Procurement portal, he claimed that the State Government had fallen short of its procurement commitments and operationalised only 7,180 procurement centres against the announced 8,775 centres.

Kishan Reddy said procurement operations, transportation of paddy and coordination with rice mills fall under the State Government’s jurisdiction and accused the Congress administration of attempting to shift responsibility for its failures onto the Centre.

The Union Minister also claimed that Central expenditure on paddy procurement in Telangana had increased substantially under the Modi government and alleged that the Congress government was indulging in “false propaganda” instead of addressing farmers’ concerns.

He further charged the State Government with failing to ensure timely procurement, adequate storage facilities, transportation arrangements and support for farmers, resulting in hardships for cultivators.

Demanding immediate corrective measures, Kishan Reddy urged the Telangana Government to prepare a comprehensive action plan in consultation with farmers’ organisations and political parties to address procurement bottlenecks and improve agricultural support systems.

The remarks come amid an intensified political battle between the BJP and Congress over paddy procurement and farmers’ welfare in Telangana.
