Telangana Media Academy Chairman calls for responsible Journalism to Promote Social Harmony

Hyderabad, May 29 (TNT):Telangana Media Academy Chairman Srinivas Reddy on Friday underscored the critical role of the media in safeguarding democracy and promoting social harmony, cautioning that the spread of fake news, divisive narratives and any erosion of media freedom could weaken society.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Media, Meditation and Societal Peace” organised by the Media Wing of the Brahma Kumaris at its Shanti Sarovar Campus in Gachibowli here , Srinivas Reddy said the media, as the fourth pillar of democracy, carries a responsibility greater than many other institutions.

He said journalists could contribute effectively to societal peace only when they themselves remained mentally balanced and peaceful.

Appreciating the Brahma Kumaris for promoting Rajayoga meditation, he observed that inner peace among media professionals was essential for fostering harmony in society.

The seminar brought together around 100 participants, including publishers, editors, desk managers, reporters and digital content creators from various states.

Speaking on the occasion, BK Kuldeep Didi, Director of the Brahma Kumaris Hyderabad Zone, highlighted the immense power of words and communication.

She stressed that positive transformation through media could be achieved only when communicators cultivated purity of thought and inner peace.

Renowned physician Dr Sachin Pareb from Mumbai spoke about the growing impact of stress on physical and mental health, linking it to heart ailments, hypertension and emotional imbalance.

He advised participants to adopt healthy lifestyles, maintain balanced diets and reduce mobile phone usage before sleep.

Senior journalist Gowri Shankar expressed concern over the increasing influence of social media-driven misinformation and the growing pursuit of wealth and fame at the cost of peace and values.

He called for regular value-based programmes to strengthen ethical awareness in society.

Greetings from the Brahma Kumaris headquarters at Mount Abu were conveyed through a video message by Rajyogi BK Karuna, Chairperson of the organisation’s Media Wing.

BK Sushant Bhai, National Media Coordinator, said media professionals could become catalysts for positive social change by developing self-awareness and inner stability.

Such qualities, he noted, enable journalists to handle stress effectively and produce responsible, constructive content.

Dr Suresh Verma, Senior Professor of Journalism at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, urged media professionals to follow the principles of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ and “Bahujan Hitai Bahujan Sukhai,” stressing that positive journalism can contribute significantly to social well-being.

Senior Rajyoga teacher Sister Anjali shared practical techniques for stress management and self-transformation, while Sister Uma Rani explained the benefits of meditation and encouraged participants to incorporate it into their daily lives.

The seminar concluded with a call for value-based journalism, with speakers emphasising that media guided by ethics, responsibility and inner peace can play a transformative role in building a harmonious and progressive society.
