DRI Seizes Hydroponic Ganja Worth Rs 3.05 Crore at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad, May 20 (TNT): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, has seized 8.705 kg of high-grade hydroponic ganja valued at approximately Rs 3.05 crore in the illicit market from two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad.

According to an official release issued on Wednesday , DRI officers intercepted the two passengers on May 19 based on specific intelligence inputs.

During examination of their check-in baggage, officials recovered 24 black-coloured packets containing greenish lumpy substance with a sharp pungent odour, concealed inside insulated water bottles, a potato snack tin and multiple food tins, plastic containers and cardboard boxes.

The seized substance weighed 8.705 kg (gross weight) and tested positive for ganja/marijuana using a Narcotic Drug Detection Kit, the release stated.

The DRI identified the substance as high-grade cannabis, commonly referred to as hydroponic ganja, and arrested both passengers under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Officials said further investigation was underway to identify the source of the contraband and trace the wider smuggling network involved.
