DRDO successfully completes trials of UAV-launched precision guided missile in AP

Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), May 19 (TNT): The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the final development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in both Air-to-Ground and Air-to-Air modes at the DRDO test range near Kurnool.

Te trials were conducted using an integrated Ground Control System (GCS) equipped with advanced technologies for automated readiness and launch operations, the DRDO said in a release here on Tuesday.

The ULPGM-V3 missile system has been developed for anti-tank operations as well as engaging airborne targets such as drones and helicopters.

DRDO partnered with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited for missile development and production.

The missile system was integrated with unmanned aerial vehicles developed by Newspace Research and Technologies, Bengaluru, for the current trials.

The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat as the nodal laboratory in collaboration with other DRDO facilities including Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.

Officials said the missile system was developed entirely through the Indian defence manufacturing ecosystem with participation from multiple MSMEs and domestic industries. The successful trials also validated the indigenous supply chain for large-scale serial production.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, public sector undertakings, industry partners and defence production agencies on the successful trials, calling it a significant milestone towards achieving self-reliance in the defence sector under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat also congratulated the teams associated with the successful development and testing of the missile system.
