10 Killed as Van Collides with Truck in UP; PM Modi Condoles

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), May 18 (TNT): Ten people, including the driver, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Sisaiya-Lakhimpur National Highway between Unchgaon and Bharehta villages in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday.

The accident occurred when a passenger van travelling from Lakhimpur to Sisaiya collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, police said here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the mishap and announced ex-gratia assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims.

The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.

Shri Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured would receive ₹50,000 each.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Deeply pained to hear about a mishap in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest.”

He further said, “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
