Indiramma Housing Scheme Phase-II to be launched in Adilabad on June 2: Telangana Minister Ponguleti

Hyderabad, May 12 (TNT): Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Tuesday announced that the second phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme would be formally launched in Adilabad district on June 2 as part of the State Formation Day celebrations.

The Minister said the modalities relating to the programme would be discussed and finalised in the Cabinet meeting scheduled on May 21.

Reviewing the progress of the scheme in the erstwhile Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts, Ponguleti said the government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was implementing the prestigious housing programme with the objective of fulfilling the dream of home ownership for the poor.

He said the first phase of construction was nearing completion and directed officials to ensure that Indiramma houses in urban areas are built within a radius of 5 to 8 kilometres from the beneficiaries’ present locations to avoid affecting their livelihoods.

The Minister observed that beneficiaries were unwilling to occupy double-bedroom houses constructed 20 to 30 kilometres away from Hyderabad city during the previous government, as relocation adversely impacted their livelihoods.

Keeping this in view, he instructed officials to identify suitable government lands, slum areas, Bhoodan lands and dilapidated housing colonies within each constituency for construction of Indiramma housing projects.

Ponguleti also directed officials to undertake a special drive for allotment of double-bedroom houses and identify beneficiaries for completed as well as ongoing housing projects by the end of this month.

He said preference should be given to people residing within a 5 to 8-kilometre radius of the housing colonies and stressed the need for continuous monitoring to ensure occupancy in completed colonies.

The Minister further instructed officials to expedite the provision of basic infrastructure such as drinking water, drainage and electricity in the colonies.

He said eligible beneficiaries within Hyderabad limits who already possess house sites would be issued Indiramma housing sanction letters by the end of this month.

Warning against encroachments on government land, the Minister said the government would act firmly against encroachment of even “an inch” of public land and directed officials to take stringent measures to prevent such incidents.

Industries and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu said the Indiramma Housing Scheme was one of the state government’s most prestigious initiatives and stressed the need for effective implementation, particularly in urban areas.

Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar appreciated the conduct of the review meetings and advised district collectors to monitor the scheme regularly to ensure maximum benefit reaches the poor.
