Hyderabad, May 8 (TNT): The Telangana Government on Friday said the ambitious Musi River Rejuvenation Project would be implemented with a “people-first” approach, stressing that the initiative was not merely a river-cleaning exercise but a broader social responsibility aimed at improving public living standards.
A Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on the Musi Rejuvenation Project was held at Praja Bhavan under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar, along with senior officials, participated in the review meeting.
The committee clarified that development should not displace people but instead involve them as stakeholders in the process.
Officials were instructed to implement the project transparently and democratically while addressing public concerns and building confidence among affected communities.
The government emphasised that public welfare and protection of citizens’ interests would remain the top priority during project execution.
According to the committee, efforts would be made to minimise the impact on people’s homes and properties by modifying project alignments wherever possible.
Officials were directed to undertake careful planning to ensure the project is implemented without causing inconvenience to residents.
The committee observed that the Musi rejuvenation initiative would not only transform Hyderabad’s urban landscape but also improve the quality of life for people living along the river basin.
Officials informed the ministers that the project would be implemented in five phases covering a stretch of 55 kilometres.
Phase-I of the project, estimated to cost around ₹7,055 crore, has completed technical and financial discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for funding support.
The ministers directed officials to immediately begin initial construction works on the first five-kilometre stretch involving minimal public impact within the larger 21-kilometre section extending from Himayat Sagar to Bapughat and Osman Sagar to Bapughat.
The committee reiterated that the success of the Musi Rejuvenation Project would depend on active public participation and maintaining a balance between development and social welfare.
