CBI Silence on Kaleshwaram Corruption Reflects BJP–BRS Nexus, Says Telangana Minister Ponguleti

Hyderabad, May 5 (TNT): Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Tuesday alleged inaction by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in probing the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, claiming that the delay points to a “political nexus” between the BJP and BRS.

Ponguleti said that although a commission of inquiry had identified misuse of public funds and submitted its report to the CBI, no action has been taken even after nine months.

He termed the delay as evidence of a political compromise between the two parties.

Demanding immediate action, Ponguleti urged Union Ministers and BJP MPs to order a comprehensive CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project as well as in power purchase deals, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Later, addressing a state-level Mega Rythu Mela held at Hanamkonda under the “Praja Palana–Pragati Pranali” programme, he reiterated the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and agricultural development.

He highlighted key initiatives of the state government, including a ₹2 lakh farm loan waiver, a ₹500 bonus along with Minimum Support Price (MSP) for fine paddy, ₹12,000 per acre assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and the “Bhu Bharati” programme aimed at resolving long-pending land issues.

Describing the Congress government as pro-farmer, he urged farmers to utilise the Rythu Mela being held from May 5 to 7, where agricultural machinery is being provided at subsidised rates.

He also distributed certificates to officials who conducted soil testing at the event.

Several Ministers, MPs, MLAs, public representatives and officials attended the programme.
