Amaravati, May 5 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday welcomed the Gazette notification issued by the Railway Ministry for the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.
Describing the development as the fulfilment of a long-cherished aspiration of the people of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for issuing the historic notification.
In a post on the social media platform X, Naidu announced that the new railway zone will commence operations from June 1, with Visakhapatnam serving as its headquarters.
He stated that as part of the reorganisation of the Waltair Division, key sections such as Palasa–Ichchapuram will be merged into the Visakhapatnam division. This restructuring is expected to significantly improve connectivity and transform the transportation landscape of North Andhra.
The Chief Minister further noted that enhanced coordination between the Visakhapatnam division and the Raigad division will strengthen railway operations and efficiency.
Expressing optimism, Naidu said the new zone will play a crucial role in accelerating the state’s development, particularly by boosting industrial growth in the North Andhra region.
