Kakinada, Feb 2 (TNT): Senior Kapu leader and former Minister Mudragada Padmanabham on Monday mounted a strong political attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that the ruling dispensation is pursuing policies hostile to the Kapu community.
In a sharply worded letter, Mudragada alleged that the government has a pattern of targeting Kapu leaders and their families, recalling his own past experiences and claiming that the family of former minister Ambati Rambabu is now facing similar treatment.
He questioned the “selective humiliations” of Opposition leaders and asked whether such governance norms prevail anywhere else in the country.
Mudragada also raked up the politically sensitive issue of BC reservation for Kapus, alleging that promises made ahead of elections were abandoned after the TDP returned to power.
He claimed that Kapus, despite strong opposition to Naidu, supported the alliance largely out of respect for Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, which, he argued, played a crucial role in reviving party cadre morale during a difficult phase.
Targeting the government’s approach towards former ministers Rajani and Jogi Ramesh, the 73-year-old Mudragada alleged political vendetta and erosion of democratic norms.
In a caustic remark underscoring his criticism, he said the Chief Minister might as well seek an emergency in the state to keep the Opposition imprisoned through the tenure.
On the Tirupati laddu controversy, Mudragada said a report by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had ruled out ghee adulteration, accusing the ruling party of politicising the issue to divert public attention.
He asserted that the Chief Minister’s political credibility would have improved had he accepted the findings instead of persisting with the allegations.
The ruling TDP has not yet issued a response to Mudragada’s charges.
