Kavitha Warns of Telangana-Style Agitation Over Delimitation, Targets Centre and BJP Leaders

Hyderabad, Apr 16 (TNT): Telangana Jagruti President Kalvakuntla Kavitha, on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Centre over the proposed delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, warning of a Telangana-style agitation if the state’s political representation is reduced.
In a video message, Kavitha alleged that the Centre is attempting to weaken Telangana’s voice in Parliament through the delimitation exercise.
She cautioned that any move to curtail the state’s share of Lok Sabha seats would be strongly resisted.
Kavitha criticised the Centre for linking the delimitation process with the Women’s Reservation Bill, arguing that the two are fundamentally separate issues.
She alleged that the government is using the bill as a pretext to push forward delimitation, raising concerns over its intent.
Highlighting representation concerns, she said Telangana currently accounts for about 3.13% of Lok Sabha seats and asserted that this proportion must not be reduced.
She warned that proposals to increase total parliamentary seats could disproportionately benefit more populous states, thereby disadvantaging smaller states like Telangana.
Drawing comparisons with states such as Bihar, she argued that Telangana may see only a marginal increase in seats, which could weaken its political influence.
She further alleged continued discrimination by the Centre in fund allocation and national project approvals.
Escalating her rhetoric, Kavitha said Telangana and other southern states would not accept any injustice in representation, indicating that a mass movement similar to the historic Telangana agitation could be revived if required.
She also reiterated the demand for a Backward Classes (BC) sub-quota within the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that it would reflect genuine commitment to social justice.
Kavitha strongly condemned remarks by Tejasvi Surya in parliament, who allegedly compared the formation of Telangana with the partition of India and Pakistan.
She termed the comments “insensitive and disrespectful” to the Telangana movement and its martyrs.
She questioned how such statements could be made about a decades-long democratic struggle and warned that attempts to undermine Telangana’s identity would not be tolerated.
Demanding accountability, Kavitha asked BJP MPs from Telangana to clearly state their position on the remarks. She said failure to condemn them would amount to endorsing an insult to the people of Telangana.
“If they cannot protect the state’s dignity, they should step down,” she asserted.
Kavitha also criticised the Indian National Congress, accusing it of failing to fulfil electoral promises after coming to power in the state and disappointing various sections of society.
She further condemned reported threats against artisans protesting for their demands, calling it a violation of democratic rights.
Kavitha assured that Telangana Jagruti would extend full support to the protesting workers and urged authorities to resolve their issues promptly.
