Telangana Dy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Calls for Nationwide Caste Census

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Sunday called for a comprehensive caste census at the national level, stating that true social justice can be achieved only through accurate and inclusive data.

He made these remarks after unveiling the book ‘Caste Census: Deepening of Social Justice’ at Praja Bhavan here.

Emphasising the need for detailed data collection, the Deputy Chief Minister said information on the social, educational and economic conditions of all communities should be captured as part of the national census exercise.

He noted that the caste survey conducted by the Telangana government has set an example and could serve as a model for implementing a nationwide caste census.

The event was attended by the book’s author G. Kiran Kumar, National President of the All India OBC Students Association and a research scholar at the University of Hyderabad, along with Dr. Vahini Billu.

The authors said the book highlights the importance of caste enumeration in strengthening democratic governance and deepening social justice.

Following the book launch, the Deputy Chief Minister held a meeting with representatives of BC teachers, professionals, intellectuals and students’ Joint Action Committee, as well as members of the All India OBC Students Association.

Several representatives, including D. Ashok, Surender, Ganesh, Shiva, Aravind, Lucky, Praveen and Mallesham, were present.
