BJP Telangana Chief Slams Attack on Andhra Jyothi Office, Demands Action

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (TNT) : Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday strongly condemned the alleged attack and siege by leaders and supporters of the YSR Congress Party on the ABN–Andhra Jyothi office in Hyderabad, terming it a “reprehensible act”.

In a statement, he said the media is a vital pillar of democracy and any attack on a media organisation is highly deplorable.

Rao said criticism is a natural part of politics and disagreements with news reports should be addressed through proper or legal means.

Resorting to attacks and intimidation of journalists, he said, amounts to suppressing press freedom and has no place in a democracy.

He alleged that similar tendencies were witnessed in the past and cautioned against the revival of what he termed a “rowdy culture”.

Stating that dissenting voices cannot be silenced through such actions, he said the BJP would always stand by media freedom and journalists.

He demanded that the police take immediate and stringent action against those responsible for the incident.
