Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 7(TNT: The Atria Group on Tuesday announced a partnership with Atria Renewable Private Limited to launch an agrivoltaic solar project at Thirumala Raju Puram (Palyam) in Chittoor district under “Project Chittoor,” a rural regeneration initiative.
The project introduces field-integrated agrivoltaic systems, wherein solar panels are installed above active farmland, enabling simultaneous crop cultivation and power generation, the company said in a release.
Each block spans about 1–1.5 acres with an installed capacity of nearly 300 kW, ensuring that agricultural activities continue uninterrupted.
The initiative aims to address key challenges faced by farmers, including income volatility, climate stress, unreliable power supply and rising input costs.
The agrivoltaic model provides an additional, stable source of income without reducing cultivable land.
Power generated from the installations will be utilised to operate shared agricultural infrastructure such as pumps, borewells, cold storage units, dryers and processing facilities, reducing dependence on grid power and lowering operational costs.
Surplus energy is expected to generate additional revenue at the cluster level.
The elevated solar panels also provide partial shading, helping reduce heat stress and evaporation, thereby improving crop resilience during hotter months.
Chairman of Atria Group Dr Sunder Raju said the initiative enables farms to produce both food and energy from the same land, improving income predictability and strengthening rural resilience.
Executive Director of Atria Renewable Pvt. Ltd. Karthik Raju said the project integrates clean energy into core agricultural operations, creating a scalable and sustainable farming ecosystem.
The project spans about 600 acres with a target agrivoltaic capacity of around 6 MW and aims to develop a self-sustaining rural ecosystem in the district.
