Rs 33-Cr LINAC Facility Inaugurated at NIMS; Telangana Steps Up Cancer Care

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (TNT): Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha on Tuesday inaugurated advanced Linear Accelerator (LINAC) services at the NIMS Cancer Block, established at a cost of approximately ₹33 crore, aimed at enhancing cancer treatment in the state.

Following the inauguration, Rajanarsimha along with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also launched a women’s cancer screening camp.

Addressing the gathering, Rajanarsimha said the state-of-the-art LINAC facility would enable precise radiation therapy by targeting tumours while safeguarding healthy tissues.

He noted that the advanced TrueBeam system would help deliver improved treatment outcomes in a shorter time.

Expressing concern over the rising incidence of cancer, he said around 55,000 to 60,000 new cases are being reported annually in the state, underscoring the need for early detection and timely treatment.

The Minister said the government is expanding cancer care services by establishing day-care cancer centres in all district headquarters and extending chemotherapy services to remote areas such as Mulugu and Adilabad.

He also highlighted preventive initiatives, including large-scale health screenings covering about 4.6 million women from self-help groups, and the rollout of an HPV vaccination programme providing free vaccines to girls aged 14 to 15 to prevent cervical cancer.

Rajanarsimha announced that cancer has been declared a notifiable disease, with a registry system being introduced to ensure accurate data collection and better planning.

He added that government hospitals are being strengthened to provide advanced treatment to all sections of society, with palliative care services now available across all government hospitals.
