Amaravati Capital Bill Gets Presidential Assent; AP CM Naidu Expresses Gratitude

Amaravati, Apr 7 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of the state to President Droupadi Murmu for granting assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026, fulfilling the long-cherished aspiration of Amaravati as the state capital.

In a post on X, Naidu thanked the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its commitment and guidance. He also conveyed appreciation to Members of Parliament who supported the Bill, state leaders, and citizens who backed the cause.

Describing the development as a significant victory, the Chief Minister said it was especially meaningful for the farmers of Amaravati, who have been at the forefront of the movement.

He said the Presidential assent marks a major milestone in resolving the state’s capital issue, reinforcing Amaravati’s status and addressing a long-pending demand.

In a separate post on X, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh termed the assent a historic milestone, stating that the long-cherished dream of Amaravati as the capital has finally become a reality.

He described it as a “historic day” for every citizen of Andhra Pradesh and expressed gratitude to the President for approving the legislation.

Lokesh also thanked the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its vision and support, and appreciated Members of Parliament who backed the Bill.

Paying tribute to the farmers of Amaravati, he acknowledged their patience, sacrifice and commitment, stating that their efforts paved the way for the realisation of the capital.

Describing the development as a collective achievement, he said the people of the state had “achieved this together,” marking a moment of pride for Andhra Pradesh.
