HYD : BRS Leaders Under House Arrest Ahead of Pargi Visit; KTR Slams Move

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (TNT): Several senior leaders of the BRS were placed under house arrest at different locations on Tuesday to prevent them from proceeding to Pargi in Vikarabad district, where protests are underway against land acquisition for an industrial park.

Police action followed plans by the leaders to extend support to residents of the Pargi constituency, who have been agitating against the government’s move to acquire land for industrial purposes.

Those detained include party Deputy Floor Leaders T. Harish Rao and Sabitha Indra Reddy, along with former MLAs Mahesh Reddy and Narender Reddy, and Vikarabad district president Methuku Anand. They were stopped and placed under house arrest while en route to support farmers protesting to protect their lands.

The situation remains tense in the region as protests continue over the proposed land acquisition.

Meanwhile, BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) condemned the police action, terming it “cowardly” and undemocratic.

In a statement, he alleged that the use of police force to curb dissent amounted to a “murder of democracy” and accused the government of attempting to silence opposition voices.

He also criticised the proposed acquisition of around 1,200 acres of land from farmers in Kadlapur and Rapolu villages of Pargi constituency for an industrial park, calling it unjust and anti-farmer.

KTR alleged that the government led by A. Revanth Reddy had failed to fulfil key promises, including Rythu Bharosa, loan waivers and the “six guarantees,” and was instead targeting lands of the poor.

He demanded the immediate release of the detained leaders and an immediate halt to the land acquisition.
