Amaravati, Apr 6 (TNT): The Centre has issued a gazette notification granting legal status to Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, following assent by President Droupadi Murmu to the legislation passed by Parliament.
The Bill, which was cleared by the Rajya Sabha, received Presidential assent, after which the Ministry of Law and Justice formally notified the decision through a gazette notification.
According to the notification, the provisions will be deemed to have come into effect from June 2, 2024, providing retrospective legal validity to Amaravati’s status as the state capital.
The development brings clarity to the capital issue and is expected to provide a boost to administrative functioning, infrastructure development and investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh.
The move also comes amid ongoing political debate over the capital framework, with the Centre’s notification reinforcing Amaravati’s position as the sole capital of the state.
