SCR posts record performance across segments in FY26

Hyderabad, Apr 2 (TNT): South Central Railway (SCR) has registered record-breaking performance across multiple segments during the financial year 2025–26, achieving its highest-ever freight, passenger and overall revenues, a top official said on Thursday.

Addressing a press meet at Rail Nilayam, SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said the Zone carried 286.44 million originating passengers during FY26, up from 263.36 million in the previous year, while passenger revenue rose to a record Rs 6,235.37 crore.

Freight operations also touched new highs, with SCR transporting 147.871 million tonnes of originating freight traffic and earning a record Rs 13,575 crore in freight revenue during the year.

The Zone’s gross originating revenue stood at an all-time high of Rs 21,211.92 crore, marking a 3 per cent increase over the previous year, he said.

Highlighting operational improvements, the General Manager said 3,791 special trains were operated during the year, while 276 additional coaches were augmented to existing services.

Further, 59 trains were upgraded with LHB coaches and 13 trains were speeded up, saving nearly 2,988 minutes of running time.

On the infrastructure front, SCR added 194.57 km of track through new lines, doubling and tripling works, and completed electrification of 325 track km during the year.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, redevelopment of 119 stations is underway at an estimated cost of over Rs 6,000 crore, including 11 major stations,he said.

The Zone also recorded its highest-ever ticket checking earnings of Rs 232.6 crore and scrap sales worth Rs 650.30 crore, highest in the country, while making progress in safety and sustainability initiatives such as Kavach installation, automatic block signalling and solar power generation.

These achievements have positioned the Zone among the top-performing railway zones in the country, he added.
