Actress Shriya Saran Launches Fortified Multigrain Atta ‘MINAR’ to Tackle Malnutrition

Hyderabad, Apr 2 (TNT): Actress Shriya Saran on Thursday launched ‘MINAR’, billed as India’s first fortified protein-plus multigrain atta, aimed at addressing malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies.

The product was launched here in the presence of Chef Sanjay Thumma, Mr Avnish Kumar (Chairman, Retailers Association of India), Mr Aditya Bansal (Director, Sree Sai Roller Flour Mills), Dr V. Sesikeran (Former Director, National Institute of Nutrition), and Mr Monojit Indra (Senior Practice Leader TechnoServe & Program Lead, Millers for Nutrition, Asia).

Developed by Hyderabad-based Sree Sai Roller Flour Mills Pvt Ltd, the fortified atta combines Sharbati wheat with soy, maize and chana, enriched with plant-based protein isolates and micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, zinc and vitamin A.

The Hyderabad based company said the product offers up to 50 per cent higher protein than regular wheat flour, with three rotis meeting nearly one-third of an adult’s daily protein requirement.

Speaking on the occasion, Shriya Saran highlighted the importance of balanced diets and said fortified foods can help bridge nutritional gaps caused by changing food habits.

A technical workshop on wheat flour fortification was held alongside the launch, where experts emphasised food fortification as a scalable and sustainable solution to micronutrient deficiencies.

Dr V. Sesikeran said fortification of staple foods can help reduce disease burden and ease economic pressure.

The product will be available in 1 kg packs across retail and e-commerce platforms, initially in Hyderabad and southern markets, followed by a nationwide rollout.
