Tirupati (AP), April 1 (TNT) : Several rare and complex urological surgeries have been successfully performed under the supervision of the Urology Department at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati.
These treatments are being provided free of cost under the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ Pranadana scheme, the hospial authorities said in a release here on Wednesday.
Free treatment is also available for children of beneficiaries holding Dr NTR Vaidya Seva and EHS cards.
The institute has urged the public to avail themselves of these specialised medical services.
SVIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. Ram said the department has been handling a growing number of patients from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states. Head of the Urology Department Dr. Anil Kumar noted that thousands of urological procedures are being performed, including several rare and complex surgeries.
Highlighting recent cases, he said a 49-year-old patient from Tirupati district diagnosed with both kidney cancer and kidney stones underwent a highly advanced procedure. Doctors used minimally invasive and nephron-sparing techniques to remove both the tumour and stones simultaneously through endoscopic and laparoscopic methods, preserving the kidney. The patient recovered within three days and was discharged in good health.
In another case, a seven-year-old boy from Srikalahasti diagnosed with testicular cancer underwent surgery in which only the cancerous portion of the testis was removed, preserving the remaining healthy tissue and safeguarding future fertility.
Similarly, a 19-year-old youth from Madanapalle with a tubercular mass in the testis underwent a procedure where only the affected portion was removed, ensuring preservation of the remaining tissue.
SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr. R. V. Kumar congratulated the medical team for performing the rare surgeries and said such advanced procedures are being carried out regularly at the institute.
