Nalanda (Bihar), Mar 31 (TNT): At least eight devotees, mostly women, were killed and five injured in a stampede at the Sheetla Mata temple in the district on Tuesday,
The incident took place due to heavy rush of devotees at the temple, police said here.
The State government has announced an ex gratia of ₹6 lakh to the families of the victims.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in a stampede in Nalanda district of Bihar and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister described the incident as “deeply painful” and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
He also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 for those injured.
“The mishap in Nalanda district, is deeply painful. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the Prime Minister added.
