Hyderabad Task Force Busts Adulterated Ginger-Garlic Paste Unit; One Arrested

Hyderabad, Mar 31 (TNT): In a crackdown on food adulteration, the Commissioner’s Task Force (Khairtabad Zone), along with the H-FAST team, busted an illegal unit manufacturing adulterated ginger-garlic paste in Kattedan industrial area and arrested one person, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Hasan Ali Rupani (55), owner of SKR Food Products, was operating the unit under the limits of Mailardevpally Police Station.

Acting on credible information, the task force team conducted a surprise inspection at a premises in SEIE, IDA, Kattedan, where they found the paste being prepared in unhygienic conditions using substandard raw materials, including garlic peels.

Police said the accused was allegedly mixing acetic acid and xanthan gum powder in the product. The paste was stored in open plastic containers exposed to dust and flies, and no food-grade certification was found for packaging. Workers were also using wooden sticks for grinding.

According to police , the adulterated products were being supplied in bulk to wholesale kirana stores, restaurants and catering services across Hyderabad, posing a serious risk to public health.

During the raids, seized 4,032 kg of ginger-garlic paste and 6,210 kg of inferior raw materials, including garlic and ginger and also other items included salt, xanthan gum powder, acetic acid and five grinding machines.

The total value of the seized material is estimated at ₹22 lakh, police said

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was engaged in large-scale production and distribution of adulterated food products for illegal financial gain.

The accused and the seized material have been handed over to Mailardevpally Police Station for further investigation.

The operation was carried out by Inspector P. Raghavender, SI G. Srikanth, SI P. Vishwanath Reddy and other personnel of the Task Force, Khairtabad Zone.
