Visakhapatnam, Mar 30 (TNT): Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) on Monday said it has trained 25 unemployed youth from weaker sections in Andhra Pradesh as certified marine welders under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The three-month residential programme, conducted from January 2 to March 30 at the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS), focused on imparting essential welding skills to enhance employability in the industrial sector, a release said here.
All 25 trainees successfully qualified for the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) 3G certification.
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, HSL Chief General Manager D. Srinivasa Rao congratulated the trainees and highlighted the strong global employment opportunities available for IRS-certified welders.
He also appreciated the role of CEMS in transforming unskilled youth into industry-ready professionals.
Officials said the initiative is part of HSL’s continued efforts to promote skill development and create employment opportunities, contributing to a skilled workforce and self-reliant India.
