3-day Annual Vasanthotsavams commences in Tirumala

Tirumala, Mar 29 (TNT): The three day annual Vasanthotsavams (Spring Festival) commenced on a grand religious note here on Monday.

This festival is being celebrated every year  during the spring season.

As it is a festival conducted for the utsava deities to provide a relief from the scorching Sun, it is also referred to as “Upasamanotsavam” (Festival of Relief).

During this festival, fragrant flowers and various types of sweet fruits are offered to the deities.

The entire Mandapam is replicated as Seshachalam woods with the dioramas of animals including hanging monkeys, elephants, lions, tigers, peacocks, and snakes decked all over, that stood as a cynosure.

As part of these festivities, at 6:30 AM, Sri Malayappa Swamy accompanied by His divine consorts, Sridevi and Bhudevi were taken on a grand procession through the four Mada Streets to the Vasantha Mandapam.

As a highlight of the Vasanthotsavams, the ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ (sacred ceremonial bath) was rendered to  the deities in a magnificent manner between 2PM and 4PM.

On this auspicious occasion, Vedic scholars recited verses from the Taittiriya Upanishad, Purusha Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam, Nila Suktam, and the Panchashanti Mantras, along with specific Pasurams from the *Divya Prabandham” throughout this ceremony.

The deities were decked with garlands crafted from the finest varieties of flowers.

In the evening, the deities reached the main temple.

Pedda Jeeyar Swamy,  Chinna Jeeyar Swamy of Tirumala, TTD Executive Officer M. Ravichandra, Board Member  Bhanu Prakash Reddy, Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, Temple Deputy Executive Officer Lokanatham, other officials, and a large number of devotees participated.
