Excise constable run over by Ganja Peddlers succumbs to injuries in Hyderabad; CM Condoles

Hyderabad, Feb 1 (TNT): An excise constable, G. Sowmya ,  who had been battling for life after being run over by ganja smugglers during a vehicle check in Nizamabad district, succumbed to her injuries at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Saturday.

The incident occurred on January 24 at Madhavanagar village in Nizamabad district when an excise team was conducting a routine vehicle inspection.

The team intercepted a car suspected of transporting ganja. As Sowmya stood in front of the vehicle to stop it, the driver suddenly accelerated and ran her over before fleeing the scene.

The 25-year-old Sowmya was initially rushed to a local hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery, removing her spleen and one kidney.

She was later shifted to NIMS for advanced treatment, where she remained under intensive care before succumbing to her injuries.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep condolences over the death of the excise constable, describing the incident as deeply distressing.

In a message, the Chief Minister said he was anguished by the tragic loss of a young officer while on duty.

The Chief Minister directed police officials to take stringent action against those responsible for the incident and assured that the state government would extend all possible support to the bereaved family.
