BJP Telangana Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict on SC Reservation

Hyderabad, Mar 24 (TNT): BJP Telangana State President N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation, terming it a “historic victory for the spirit of the Constitution.”

In a statement, Rao said the apex court upheld the earlier Andhra Pradesh High Court ruling and clarified that constitutional benefits meant for SCs cannot be extended after religious conversion.

He said SC reservations, as envisioned by Dr B R Ambedkar, were intended for the social upliftment of marginalised sections within the Hindu fold, and the court had rightly ruled against continuation of such benefits post-conversion.

Alleging misuse, Rao said some individuals had been converting to other religions while continuing to hold SC certificates to avail reservation benefits, resulting in injustice to genuine beneficiaries.

“The verdict will put an end to such irregularities and ensure justice for the truly eligible SC community,” he said.

Criticising rival parties, Rao alleged that the judgment exposed attempts to create confusion around reservations for vote-bank politics.

He also claimed that several such instances had been reported in Telangana and demanded strict implementation of the Supreme Court ruling at the ground level.

Reiterating the party’s stand, Rao said the BJP remains committed to ensuring that constitutional benefits reach genuine beneficiaries and safeguarding the rights of Dalits.
