Kishan Reddy Inaugurates National DMF Summit 2026; Stresses Inclusive Development in Mining Areas

New Delhi, Mar 23 (TNT) : Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Monday inaugurated the two-day National District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Summit 2026 at the SCOPE Convention Centre here, emphasising inclusive and sustainable development in mining-affected regions.

An exhibition organised on the sidelines showcased success stories and initiatives from various states, highlighting the transformative role of DMF funds.

Addressing the summit, Reddy said local communities contributing to the country’s natural resources must receive equitable benefits.

He stressed the need to prioritise environmental protection, livelihood restoration, and holistic development in mining areas.

The summit, themed “Effective Utilisation of District Mineral Foundation Funds for Aspirational District Programme (ADP) and Aspirational Block Programme (ABP) Areas,” focuses on outcome-oriented utilisation through convergence, transparency, and monitoring.

Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Piyush Goyal said around 200 mining blocks have been auctioned in the current financial year, reflecting ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring benefits reach grassroots levels.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Sushil Kumar Lohani highlighted the Panchayat Advancement Index portal, which enables data-driven governance using 435 indicators aligned with Sustainable Development Goals.

Additional Secretary, NITI Aayog, Rohit Kumar emphasised the importance of “3Cs” — Convergence, Collaboration, Competition — and “3Fs” — Funds, Functions, Functionaries — in driving transformation in aspirational areas.

During the first day, states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand shared best practices focusing on convergence and maximising developmental impact.

DMF beneficiaries from several states showcased their products at the exhibition, and the Union Minister interacted with participants.

The summit is expected to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and improve effective utilisation of DMF funds for inclusive and sustainable development.
