Hyderabad, Mar 23 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was arrested on Monday while staging a protest against the Congress government, with the party alleging suppression of democratic voices.
According to the BJP, Rao was taken into custody while participating in the party’s “Assembly Siege” protest organised to highlight what it termed as the state government’s failures and unfulfilled promises.
The party alleged that the Congress had come to power with assurances on welfare, governance and “Praja Palana”, but claimed that these promises remain largely unmet for farmers, women, youth, employees, pensioners and other sections.
Describing the situation as “Praja Mosam”, BJP leaders alleged that the government had failed to deliver on its commitments and instead resorted to curbing dissent.
The BJP further termed Rao’s arrest as indicative of an “anti-democratic attitude” of the state government, alleging misuse of state machinery against opposition leaders raising public issues.
The protest, the party said, was aimed at reflecting growing public discontent against the Congress government in Telangana.
